Aviator Sports and Events Center at Floyd Bennett Field

Aviator Sports and Events Center at Floyd Bennett Field

“Jack L. Gordon Architects’ outstanding work on this project was essential in the creation of a beautiful, functional, and excellent value facility that provides significant community benefit through recreation and social gathering. The project gave new life to run down historic buildings.”

– Richard Cieciuch, Owner’s Representative, Project Works, Inc.

Aviator Sports and Events Center is an 8.4-acre multi-use sports and recreation complex located at Floyd Bennett Field – New York City’s first municipal airport – in Brooklyn, NY.

The project repurposed four historic airplane hangars by linking them into a single 150,000 SF indoor sporting facility featuring two hockey rinks, a multi-purpose hardwood gymnasium, a gymnastics center, and an indoor climbing wall. The two outdoor synthetic turf fields provide 200,000 SF of playing space for football, soccer, and lacrosse.

JLGA wove an aviation and athletics theme throughout the facility in areas including the food court, and the control tower ticket booth. Additionally, JLGA designed a custom graphics wall that pays homage to early pioneering aviators.
