Works In Progress

Albert Einstein College of Medicine (AECOM) is renovating 17,600 SF within their Van Etten Building to create a state-of-the-art anatomy and surgical training center. Guided by a JLGA-developed master plan, the project includes a flexible 50-seat classroom, a fully equipped surgical skills lab, and an expanded anatomy suite with updated morgue facilities and cadaver transport systems. Supporting spaces include student changing rooms, lockers, a lounge, and faculty offices. The surgical skills lab will feature integrated AV systems, overhead boom lighting, an autoclave, a freezer room with rack lift, and dedicated storage areas. The project also involves cosmetic upgrades to circulation paths from the main entrance to the anatomy lab, along with an expanded loading dock to allow for discrete cadaver transport. These comprehensive infrastructure improvements will enable advanced instruction and underscore AECOM’s commitment to innovation in medical education.

Anticipated Completion: 2026

JLGA is designing a 5,100 SF imaging bay addition to Building 39 at The Nathan Kline Research Institute to house a 47-ton, 9.4 Tesla MRI scanner. The project includes the renovation of adjacent structures to support the new facility, with special attention to shielding against radio frequency interference and magnetic fringe fields. Key challenges include accommodating the installation of the large-scale MRI equipment and developing a phased construction plan to minimize disruption. JLGA’s scope also includes existing conditions modeling, preparation of a Program Report to define project parameters and options, budget development, hazardous material investigation, and commissioning services. The design will incorporate sustainable strategies in alignment with New York State Executive Order 88.

Anticipated Completion: 2027

JLGA is currently serving as Executive Architect for the comprehensive renovation and restoration of the historic Art Students League of New York building on West 57th Street. The scope includes restoring the building’s exterior envelope and roofs, a reorganization of studio and gallery spaces, upgrading MEP infrastructure, and replacing three large-scale first-floor skylights. JLGA is coordinating a multidisciplinary team of consultants, ensuring seamless collaboration across all phases, from design through construction. With a deep understanding of the building’s existing conditions and its operational complexities, JLGA is committed to preserving the League’s cultural legacy while guiding critical upgrades that will support its continued role as a premier institution for arts education.

Anticipated Completion: 2026

JLGA is currently working on a new Cardiac Cath Lab suite which will expand the interventional radiology procedure capacity at a leading NYC healthcare institution. The renovation will take over existing administrative and library space in the hospital to create two new IR procedure rooms, with planning for a future third procedure room included in the project scope. The pre and post procedure area will be designed to suit the new radial lounge recovery model, including six patient bays and a centralized staff observation area. The 7,100 SF suite will also include all FGI required program elements, including a public waiting room, ADA toilets, and various clinical and staff support spaces. The design team is also working closely with the practitioners and equipment vendor to accommodate all architectural and systems requirements for the new catheterization equipment being installed in the procedure rooms. The new Cardiac Cath suite will nearly double the hospital’s capacity for catheterization procedures in service of ensuring access to care for all patients in the Sunset Park neighborhood and beyond.
