The project scope includes the redesign of two existing classrooms on the 6th floor of the Jacobs Academic Center at NYU Tandon School of Engineering’s Brooklyn Campus as a dedicated space for new teaching labs and laboratory office. The core project challenge is to design a new and dynamic teaching and learning space that will “challenge the imagination” and featuring state-of-the-art technologies.
The new facility will also rovide research and PhD office space to to support Aerospace Engineering research activities, including the testing of material samples, development of scaled models, and enable climate modeling research activities
Special design considerations and innovations will include a wind-tunnel for climate modeling, water table, rotating tank of water, open lab benches, equipment/lab storage, and an optical table.
This sustainably designed space (LEED Silver equivalent) will feature a shared office with three to four workstations, three to four overhead service carriers within both labs, a shared lab prep area between teaching and research labs, and movable / reconfigurable lab furniture to allow for flexibility as needs evolve.
