Animal Imaging Suite and Laboratory

Animal Imaging Suite and Laboratory

Designed for a leading NYC research hospital, the 4,000 SF Animal Imaging Suite is a shared facility that provides advanced equipment for the hospital’s animal researchers. The suite features animal MRI and PET scanners, as well as animal surgery and housing facilities.

JLGA installed lead shielding in the room housing the MicroPET scanner, and a faraday cage in the walls of the room housing the MRI machine.

JLGA overcame two major challenges in achieving the design. First, in order to support the weight of the MRI machine, JLGA added new steel supports in the building, a process complicated by the building’s tight ceiling conditions.

Second, the MRI machine’s large magnet had to be installed in the building. JLGA coordinated the installation, during which part of the front façade of the building was removed so that a crane could lift the magnet into the building.
