This synthetic turf men’s baseball field is designed to seat 500 spectators. Player and fan amenities include covered dugouts, public restrooms and a press box. JLGA designed the baseball field on a fast-track schedule and provided features including a video platform, public announcement system and scoreboard. More recently, JLGA was selected by Fordham University to perform a comprehensive renovation of the 158,000 sq. ft. Bahoshy Softball Complex and Murphy Field. At the Bahoshy Softball Complex, JLGA introduced a new synthetic turf surface with a regulation clay infield, enhanced practice amenities including a dedicated pitching warm-up area and batting cages, and improved site infrastructure such as perimeter fencing, field branding, and sport-specific markings. Murphy Field underwent a significant transformation with the installation of a new synthetic turf system, updated perimeter fencing, and integrated branding and field markings tailored for football and soccer. To meet regulation size requirements for collegiate soccer, JLGA widened the field and designed a new retaining wall and drainage system to support the expanded footprint. These renovations not only elevated the performance and usability of Fordham’s athletic fields but also reflected JLGA’s commitment to creating high-quality, durable, and regulation-compliant collegiate sports environments. Designed with both function and comfort in mind, the practice includes clinical areas such as clean and soiled utility rooms, a reading room, and an additional waiting area for patients in gowns. Administrative offices, support spaces, restrooms, and staff locker rooms are seamlessly integrated, ensuring a well-rounded and efficient environment for both patients and staff. This facility marks the healthcare institution’s first independent women’s imaging center in Brooklyn, providing essential services to an underserved community in need of high-quality care. This small yet impactful project supports the city’s mission to offer young children an early educational foundation while assisting families navigating daily life. Housed on the top floor of a repurposed commercial building, the 9,100 SF space was transformed from medical offices into a dynamic, child-friendly learning environment. The redesign includes four classrooms, administrative offices, and kitchen areas, all tailored to meet the city's rigorous educational standards. The design incorporates reconfigured layouts, updated mechanical systems, and modern communications infrastructure, ensuring a safe, welcoming, and functional space. A new street-level entrance, framed by a landscaped side yard, guides visitors away from the busy parking lot, enhancing both safety and accessibility. At the rear, a vibrant outdoor play area provides much-needed recreational space for the children, completing the thoughtful integration of function and design within this urban setting. This cutting-edge facility supports a range of imaging equipment, including an 11T Small Animal MRI, MicroPET, IVIS Spectrum, and animal surgery and housing spaces. JLGA faced two significant challenges: first, supporting the weight of the MRI machine required the installation of new steel supports within the building's tight ceiling space. Second, to accommodate the MRI’s large magnet, part of the building's façade was removed to allow a crane to lift the magnet into place. Additional steel shims and a copper Faraday cage were incorporated to address magnetic and RF-shielding concerns. The suite’s Wet Lab is designed with flexible, movable lab benches and worktables to meet future needs. The facility also includes offices, imaging analysis stations, and individual researcher workstations. To maximize natural light, JLGA created a central circulation spine, placing imaging rooms in the building’s interior and opening laboratory spaces to the exterior. This layout fosters collaboration by providing a shared core workspace for the hospital's researchers. The design includes five exam rooms, an administrative office, reception area, waiting room, and medical assistant spaces, all crafted for flexibility and functionality. JLGA faced the challenge of blending practical design with aesthetic appeal, ensuring the space felt fresh, professional, and welcoming. Respecting the existing structure—specifically the original tiled elevator lobby and water fountains—required a creative approach, balancing modern elements with the existing finishes. Given the lack of a designated tenant at the project’s start, we designed a versatile space with a warm, inviting color palette and thoughtful lighting. JLGA was selected to lead the comprehensive renovation and expansion of the school, which is designated as a landmarked structure. This status required close collaboration with the New York State Office of Historic Preservation to ensure that all interventions respected the building’s architectural legacy. The project consisted of the modernization of the existing 77,000 SF school building and the design of a new 34,000 SF addition. JLGA developed a phased construction strategy that prioritized minimizing disruption to students and staff while addressing critical spatial and infrastructural challenges. The modernization plan responded directly to the concerns of parents, teachers, and administrators regarding overcrowding, outdated building systems, evolving educational methodologies, and the needs of a multilingual student body. The newly constructed wing provided contemporary, internet-ready classrooms and learning environments, offering much-needed relief from the undersized spaces of the original building and acting as swing space, enabling the renovation of the building to proceed floor by floor without interrupting the academic calendar. Interior upgrades throughout the original school enhanced functionality and flexibility while preserving key historic elements. The design supports the school’s evolving pedagogical goals, including inclusive learning, technology integration, and support for a linguistically and culturally diverse population. Through sensitive design and strategic phasing, JLGA transformed PS-217 into a modern learning environment that honors its architectural heritage while meeting the needs of 21st-century education.
