Rose Hill Gym Renovation

Fordham University | Bronx, NY

Fordham University retained JLGA to renovate their 1920s-era gymnasium. At the heart of the transformation was the replacement of the original hardwood basketball court which had experienced deterioration of the existing structural slab beneath. This led to the design and installation of a new concrete foundation, engineered not only for stability but also to discreetly house a complex network of electrical, fire alarm, and advanced AV systems. Every element was coordinated with remnants of legacy infrastructure, ensuring a seamless transition to modern performance standards.

Above this intricate substructure, a new NCAA-rated court flooring was laid, carefully selected through extensive research into manufacturer options. The court’s striking striping pattern—featuring Fordham branding, logos, and broadcast-optimized text—was developed in collaboration with university leadership, designed to enhance visibility and impact during televised games. The AV overhaul included recessed floor boxes, a newly expanded control room, and future-ready conduit systems embedded within the slab to allow for long-term technological growth. Enhancements continued beyond the court with upgraded lighting in entryways and stairwells, along with custom millwork that elevates transitional spaces. Executed under a tight summer deadline, the project is a testament to thoughtful design, technical precision, and Fordham’s ongoing commitment to excellence in collegiate athletics.
