This versatile facility features a 44-seat lecture hall, a 1,500 sq. ft. cadaveric dissection lab, and a viewing window enhanced with advanced A/V systems, allowing surgeons-in-training to observe live surgical demonstrations. Designed for adaptability, the center serves as a seminar room, distance learning space, or teleconference hub. Additional amenities include a 1,800 sq. ft. research core, lobby with reception, lounge, pantry, morgue, and a Cryo-EM Microscopy Suite. The design thoughtfully addresses the challenge of limited natural light, incorporating bright lighting and a warm color palette in public areas, while research spaces feature cool tones and metallic finishes. Overcoming the constraints of low ceilings and structural limitations, JLGA removed obstructive walls and columns to create open, flexible spaces. After replacing storm-damaged mechanical systems, the team implemented flood mitigation strategies to future-proof the center against potential flooding.
