MCU Park (formerly KeySpan Park) was designed to serve as both a new home for the NY Mets’ Minor League affiliate, The Brooklyn Cyclones, and to act as a catalyst for the economic revitalization of Coney Island. Working with the NY Mets and NYC Economic Development Corporation, JLGA designed the 7,500-seat stadium to create an intimate beachside venue for baseball fans and event attendees.
Seating was lowered and brought in towards the field to bring fans close to the action and provide unobstructed views. Wide concourses guide visitors to seating areas and stadium amenities including food services, restroom facilities, retail concessions, and luxury suites. Playful building forms, bright colors, and iconic custom designed circular field lighting create a festive atmosphere which recalls Coney Island’s rich cultural past.
The stadium was built upon the site of the former Steeplechase Amusement Park with the historic Parachute Jump Tower anchoring the corner of right field. New pathways between Riegelmann Boardwalk, the stadium, and Surf Avenue create connections linking the site to its surroundings. The success of MCU Park has spurred a resurgence of commercial development along Surf Avenue, helping to revitalize Coney Island into a modern recreational destination.
